about

When the expression of embodied autonomy is forced to find its elaboration beyond - the law, social norms, dominant discourses, or political frameworks – its conceptualisation and treatment as excessive to, hostile to, and inevitably disposable by society is a default social mechanism in the colony. Disposability is an arm of punitive social relations that have been carried through from the inception of the colony - such punitive measures (disposability, neglect, abandonment) encourage dealing with realities, considered excessive to the norm, by deploying collective forms of immunisation – protections which safeguard self-preservation over self-alteration; peace over justice. When we prioritise the frameworks that stem from political forms of Liberalism in the colony, we instil social obligations to reach a place of consensus and peace. We thus maintain a stunted idea of what innocence is, one built on the premise that conflict, disagreement and de-liaisons must be avoided. Self-alteration is thus limited to take form with direct reference to its subjugation to supremacy. What then manifests is the maintenance of what already finds expression at the expense of what is struggling to surface, or find its ears, its voice, its sensation.

Peace is not equivalent to justice.
And justice cannot always be determined democratically or diplomatically
Peace hides contradiction,
Conceals origins, nuances and contexts;
Tries to instil abstraction
Justice is always contextual, even if its spirit is poetic
As the world slowly fades to white, what binds us ossifies to the artefact
Whoever she may be, she waits to receive
